The standard print and electronic access tools may provide you with all of the information sources you need. Sometimes, however, they will not be sufficient for your needs. In these cases, there are a variety of other strategies that can be used. Some of these are:

• look at the bibliographies in review articles and annual reviews
• browse the library stacks in the appropriate call number range and scan books for useful chapters
• scan bibliographies in relevant books and articles
• if there is a related records search feature in an online access tool, use it
• talk with subject librarians and subject experts
• search the online catalogs of libraries which specifically collect materials on your broad subject area
