Using the Boolean OR

Example: colonists OR immigrants OR settlers

This search statement broadens the scope of your search by retrieving all records in which any of these terms occurs.

The boolean OR operator looks for any of your search terms: searching colonists OR immigrants OR settlers will retrieve records that have at least one of these terms

The Boolean logical operator OR is a effective way to make sure that you get all or most of the items relevant to your topic. However, you will also get a lot more results.

HINT: If you only need a few relevant items, you probably should not use the OR operator.
