Using Subject Guides to find appropriate indexes

Subject or research guides are written by librarians and list the major reference tools and information sources for broad subject areas. To find the subject or research guide that covers your topic, first look on the library web site for a link to subject or research guides or for special subject pages

Sometimes, these research guides are only available in paper. If this is the case, they will be located near the Reference Desk and other service points. If you do not see any, ASK A LIBRARIAN to help you.

Once you have found an appropriate subject guide (either electronic or in print), look for a list of indexes. Sometimes these guides call the electronic indexes "databases." Select the index that seems most appropriate for your information needs.
